Where to stay and what to do in Mauritius

A holiday in Mauritius is something you think about in advance for weeks and when you have experienced it, you cannot stop remembering those awesome moments you had. So where you stay and what you do are very important when you travel to Mauritius. We have chosen some glorious places to stay and some must-do activities for you when you are next on this magical island:

1. Frederica Nature Reserve in Bel Ombre Region and Heritage Awali Golf & Spa Resort

Set off on a quad biking experience that you will never forget. Even if it rains, your ride around the reserve will be fun as you navigate mud and puddles. Your friendly guides will show you the wild animals roaming around and the fruit bats flying between the trees. Stop off at a waterfall, a beautiful sight and experience.
Stay at the Heritage Awali Golf & Spa Resort, a 5-star beachfront all-inclusive hotel. World classrooms, excellent cuisine and friendly staff on the south side of the island where all you need to do is enjoy the sun, sea and swimming pools. Take long walks on the coral sand beach and enjoy a unique snorkelling excursion from glass-bottom boats. Or simply take a boat trip to see the bays. Don’t miss a few rounds on the superb golf course, sometimes a test of your golfing abilities depending on the tee you choose – a great pleasure to play with so many challenges. And when you are done, choose from 5 different restaurants to dine on real Indian or Italian food, local seafood and enormous buffets.

2. Tour of Rodrigues Island and Ambre Resort & Spa

This island is found off the east coast of Mauritius so why not base yourself at the fantastic Ambre Resort & Spa for 7 nights and enjoy an all-inclusive package deal? For only US$1 255 per person sharing you get all meals and most drinks, free greens access, use of non-motorised water and land activities and your flights and transfers!
From here head to the island of Rodrigues for an outing and start a stunning 20-minute walk from St. Francois to discover heaven. White sands, turquoise seas and a dreamy location are simply the ideal values to find when visiting the island. On the way back, a stopover at Solange is recommended. Make the most of superb swimming, snorkelling and sunbathing on Rodrigues and take a picnic for the entire family. Go there for a fitness jog while watching birds and stunning scenery as a way to rejuvenate your soul. The best beach in the world for pure privacy!

3. La Morne Brabant and La Pirogue Resort & Spa

Make a point of visiting Le Morne Brabant, a peninsula at the extreme southwestern tip of Mauritius distinguished by a striking rocky promontory reaching 556 metres (1,824 ft) above sea level. Now a well-known tourist attraction, the summit stretches more than 12 hectares (30 acres) and boasts many caves and overhangs on the steep slopes, surrounded by a lagoon. The first part is a moderately steep climb but then you need to use ropes so be prepared. The views over the whole south of the island including coconut island are incredible. Wear the right shoes and take water to drink.

Stay at the swanky 4-star La Pirogue Resort & Spa if you enjoy birding, leisure, relaxation, water sports and getting out in nature. Your 7-night packages is fully inclusive again of deluxe accommodation in a garden view room, all meals, most drinks, non-motorised land and water sports, flights and transfers. If you are with the whole family, make use of the Sun Kids Club, open 12 hours a day for children from 2 to 11 years of age. Specially-trained hostesses are on hand to watch over them and oversee a long list of exciting outdoor activities.

La Pirogue offers authentic and comfortable Mauritian bungalows in the heart of a vast 14-hectare coconut plantation bordering the white sandy beach. The mood is delightfully relaxed and the atmosphere, generosity and attention of the staff have made the reputation of this warm and friendly hotel beyond compare. On top of its heavenly setting with its extraordinary sunsets, La Pirogue offers plenty of land and water activities to enable children and adults to enjoy their stay in Mauritius

4. Scuba Diving

There are a few diving centres and schools to choose from in Mauritius. Many visitors enjoy Aquaventure’s professionalism even though they are more expensive than their competitors. But their staff are very safety conscious and friendly. Have fun feeding the fish and receiving fun photos and a video. The water is crystal clear which means you will be lucky enough to see plentiful sea life – lots of fish, coral, oysters, sea cucumbers and eels – let your underwater guide spot these and show you. Enjoy great quality photos and videos or try to use your own camera.
Your children can become newly qualified as PADI divers and will be well taken care of. Check out new dive sites and myriad sea creatures including whales and dolphins in season.

5. Tamarin Bay

Discover Tamarin Bay in Tamarin, next to Black River, on the west coast of Mauritius. One of the beach beaches on the island where you can meet joggers and dog walkers and surfers, all enjoying the beauty of the great ocean outdoors in the same place. Get there by crossing the bridge, after the Riverland sports club, down the road that takes you straight to the beach.
It is an absolutely beautiful place to swim with the wild dolphins surrounded by beautiful mountains and gets the thumbs up from families who come down to appreciate the spectacular landscape of mountain river and sea, huge trees with great shadows. Take a catamaran, do some snorkelling, and see dolphins. The sad part, however, was that there were too many speedboats surrounding the dolphins, which would’ve made it stressful for the beautiful creatures.

6. Casela World of Adventures and the Hilton Mauritius Resort & Spa

Spend a whole day here and never notice the time.  Real interaction with lions and tigers with expert funny guides. Your once in a lifetime experience of being a kid again and enjoying the playful side of life. You really need to spend a full day here to make the most of it.
