Activities
Situated in the Kanana Concession, the focus of activities at Kanana varies with the rising and falling levels of the Okavango Delta. Activities include morning and afternoon game drives in open safari vehicles, with afternoon game drives often continuing into the evening. When out on game drives our window seat guarantee ensures no more than four guests per vehicle and individual use of a camera mount. Attractions
Kanana’s private concession location allows guided walks, Mokoro excursions and night drives in addition to game drives and motor boating. Wildlife is in abundance with frequent predator sightings such as lion, leopard and wilddog all making Kanana their hunting grounds. The camp also affords private access to one of the largest heronries not only in the Okavango Delta but Southern Africa and is an excellent area for birding with regular sightings of Pels Fishing Owl.
Fishing is available throughout the year (with the exception of January and February).
The Okavango Delta is home to the remote Kanana Camp, adjacent to the famous Moremi Game Reserve. The camp is nestled between tall ebony and sausage trees on the edge of a permanent stretch of channel. A mixture of seasonal floodplains and forests combines with a permanent channel and flood meadows, leading to a range of activities to offer. Kanana’s on a Botswana safari.
Within this private concession area lies some of the best opportunities in the Delta for exploration by mokoro (traditional canoe), and this is an ideal way to experience over four hundred bird species found in the Okavango, not to mention the most exciting method of finding the elusive sitatunga, a rarely seen water living antelope, related to the bushbuck and nyala.
The main lounge and dining area at this Botswana accommodation is an open design, raised on decks around an impressive ancient strangler fig tree. It comprises the lounge, bar, and a communal dining area.
Steps lead down to a jetty and a sandy firepit with views over the water: the most popular spot to swap game viewing experiences after dinner.
A total of eight deluxe tented chalets is raised on wooden decks. Spread out along wooden walkways, they all overlook the channel or floodplain in front of the camp. Each chalet is built around a solid frame of thick wooden beams, and the interiors are spacious, airy and very attractive.
At the front of each chalet is a shaded deck with wooden chairs. Each chalet has twin beds beneath a large walk-in mosquito net. An en suite bathroom is located at the back of the chalet.
