Simbavati River Lodge

Simbavati River Lodge, Timbavati

Enter a world of adventure and make-believe, a family safari lodge where children can safely play in the heart of a pristine wilderness. Simbavati River Lodge, deep in the Timbavati Private Game Reserve, on the now unfenced Kruger National Park border, offers travellers spacious family chalets and exciting kiddies’ programs.

While children search for magical treasures, make plaster casts of wild animals and identify beautiful birds, parents will be sipping drinks on the vast deck watching animals come down to the river. Simbavati means ‘the place where the lions come down from the stars’ in the local Shangaan language – Timbavati is the home to the legendary white lions as well as the Big Five.

  • Situated in the heart of the world-renowned Timbavati Private Nature Reserve, which forms part of the Greater Kruger National Park, this intimate, family-friendly camp is built on the banks of the Nhlaralumi River – a beautiful water source in the summer months when rain is plentiful, and a dry riverbed in the drier winter months.
  • Simbavati River Lodge is situated in the northern sector of the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve, that is surrounded by 12 000 hectares of wildlife and rich wilderness in which you can experience an authentic and affordable African safari.
  • Accommodation consists of eight luxury tents and three chalets; these are all privately situated, comfortably furnished and with en-suite facilities.
Simbavati River Lodge Overview

Set on the Nhlaralumi River, the warm lodge, once called Gomo Gomo Camp, has been renovated and upgraded to ensure comfort and fun all holiday long.

Safari accommodation in nine stylish modern tents or thatched chalets nestles under huge old Leadwood and Jackalberry trees, offering guests two-bedroom family suites with large bathrooms and freestanding baths. All units come with air-conditioning, minibars, complimentary toiletries, tea and coffee facilities, outside baths or showers and private game viewing decks.

The main attractions at Simbavati River Lodge are the game drives and the food! Imagine the aroma of a rich venison roast cooking slowly while the sun sets? Or the wafting scent of bacon and eggs and roasted coffee beans after a busy morning game drive?

Guests enjoy an afternoon high tea before game drives then sumptuous African style dinners around the campfire in the boma at night. Five-star food and five-star animal sightings ensure happy guests who learn so much from the rangers’ intimate knowledge of the trees, small creatures, and varying habitats.

Timbavati Game Reserve is one of the premier game-watching destinations in the world – about 145 mammal species alone occur in the park! Guests will feel part of the more than 12 000 hectares of South African bushveld – breath-taking scenery and game viewing make Simbavati the ideal safari experience for families and friends.
