Experience one of Africa’s wildlife meccas from the elegance of Busanga Bush Camp. A rustic camp with so much character. Spend magical nights in a partially enclosed chalet – the best spot, in harmony with nature. Listen to the serenading birds and fall asleep to the sounds of nocturnal animals. A safari here is not just about the big game. Get a bird’s eye view of the Busanga Plains aboard a hot air balloon and watch the spectacular misty, pink sunrises.
The vast, meadow-like Busanga Plains extend in all directions around the camp, offering a remarkable sense of freedom and possibility. The plains teem with birds and grazing antelope, while misty mornings and evenings are illuminated by unique pink sunrises and dusks.
With just four well-appointed rooms, this dry season-only camp captures the authentic spirit of safari style and warm Zambian hospitality. The spectacular views from the camp itself, and the wildlife encounters during day and night game drives and guided walks, let guests get acquainted with the plains; a hot air balloon ride provides phenomenal panoramas and a different perspective.
INSIDER’S TIP: Special sightings to look for include lion, cheetah, roan antelope and puku to name a few.
Place: Busanga Bush Camp lies on a verdant island in the middle of Kafue’s Busanga Plains. Day and night drives and seasonal boating take in the diverse wildlife in this remote place on the ground, or a hot air balloon ride by air.
Accommodation: This intimate camp has just four tents set under leafy fig trees. The main area – under canvas – is a favourite space amongst guests, particularly at sunrise when the rising mist gradually reveals masses of lechwe and puku dotted across the floodplain. Dining also takes place under the canopy of a majestic tree from which an unusual lantern chandelier hangs, romantically lighting up dinner.
Purpose: Despite making a capital loss in the Busanga Plains every year – due to its remoteness and shortened tourism season – our presence is critical for the survival of this fragile ecosystem through the support of anti-poaching activities and employment.
NOTE: Busanga Bush Camp is open between 01 June and 31 October each year.
