This award-winning accommodation for all kinds of adventurers with an eco-conscience who come to contribute to gorilla conservation in Uganda rises more than 2000 m above sea level and is brimming with luxury facilities.

Set off every morning at first light from Clouds Mountain Gorilla Lodge on the Nkuringo trail to track the gorillas and when you return to your own cottage, your private butler will draw your bath, offer you freshly brewed coffee, or freshly squeezed orange juice or a whiskey or wine, your wet and cold body needing time to relax and revive until the next day’s journey. This lodge is right on the edge of the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and your professional guides take you to secret hideouts where these ancient and endangered species continue their social existence.

Dine on nutritious foods around the table with fellow trekkers while your wet and dirty clothes are perfectly laundered for the next trail. Your special cottage accommodation at Clouds Mountain Gorilla Lodge has been ingeniously created from volcanic rock and features a welcoming fireplace, enormous chunky armchairs, and hand-woven carpets. Individually decorated with a local artist’s work, each cottage is uniquely different and several gusts have been so impressed with the art that they have commissioned further works for their own homes and offices in the USA, Canada, and the UK!

Join the keen tourists to Uganda who come especially to find gorillas on trekking holidays into these statuesque mountains in conserved national parks. Your lodge is community driven and you can watch activities nearby as the local people show you their homes and lifestyles.

Get ready for pampering spa massages and beauty treatments in this glorious mountain gorilla setting in the clouds. Clouds Mountain Gorilla Lodge feels like a Swiss chalet in the Alps where skiing is taking place on white slopes, but instead, it is a delightful piece of paradise in the middle of an African forest.

Overview

Clouds Mountain Gorilla Lodge is in the clouds thanks to its mighty elevation on the mountains overlooking Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and provides the perfect base for gorilla trekking safaris. Fresh water comes from rainwater harvesting and this unique lodge provides plenty of modern amenities in its adventurous ecotourism hotel offerings. This Rwanda accommodation is a sincere partnership between USAID, the Africa Wildlife Foundation, the Nkuringo community and the International Gorilla Conservation Project.

Each chalet hosts a different Ugandan artist in the 9 gorgeous accommodations giving them a special place to display their works – many of which have been sold and now hang in prestigious offices and homes in the USA, Canada, the UK and further afield. Picture huge solid exposed timber beams, enormous glass windows and stone finishes to set the scene of this magical hotel on a mountain in the Uganda forests.

Feel excited about a gorilla trekking safari in the morning when you awaken and eat breakfast. Then return to a hot bath, a hot drink and a warming meal around the fire with fellow gorilla trackers. A warm place, with hospitable staff and fantastic facilities to make your heart sing. An award-winning destination loved by all travellers who seek out its comforts and conservation efforts.

There are 6 double cottages and 2 family cottages with attractive plush armchairs in comfy lounges beside the roaring fires, private terraces, and hot showers or tubs. See the volcanoes in the distance on Virunga National Park and set off onto the trail directly from the lodge for a day of gorilla trekking in the mists.

Clouds Mountain Gorilla Lodge is situated in Nkuringo, on the southwestern corner of the Bwindi National Park, raised at 2100m with a sweeping panoramic view of the magnificent Virunga Volcanoes and the Great Rift Valley.  Look out for the more than 560 fantastic bird species and diverse animals including primates, small antelope, genets and civets.

You are here to traverse the Nkuringo gorilla family home range, about 1.5 hours from the lodge trekking hard and your guide may find the extra 5 other habituated gorilla families (Rushaga group) that are also easily accessible from Clouds Mountain Gorilla Lodge (45 min drive to the starting point).
