Elephant’s Eye Tented camp

Tented luxury in Hwange at Elephant's Eye

This is the time to choose Elephant’s Eye Tented Camp near Zimbabwe’s Hwange National Park, place of the elephant, place of enormous herds of these mammals that we all love to watch and learn from. Visit this charming Zimbabwe eco camp, each chalet designed to be a special tree house with extraordinary views all around.

It’s situated on its own private concession on the edge of Hwange National Park, is Elephant’s Eye, and it’s a luxury tented safari camp with a green conscience, offering all visitors a taste of true Zimbabwean hospitality. One of the big attractions at Elephant’s Eye is the private open-air sleep out deck overlooking its own waterhole and aptly called “The Eye”. So, guests can book this venue for a few nights on top of their luxury tented experience and all meaning will fall into place.

Game drives are the other highlight here, to find the hundreds of elephants and big cats that make the region so famous. Bush walks are especially thrilling because guests get to track animal spoor, find extraordinary birds and insects, plants and more.

Interesting visits to nearby community villages are heart-warming and visitors then appreciate the ecotourism connections with their bushveld enjoyment contributing to something worthwhile. All of these activities need a balance with a special spa treatment too – then enjoy a warm boma dinner around the lantern lit fire.

Bring a group of friends or business associates to enjoy this incredible game lodge in the heart of Zimbabwe’s best park, Hwange. Warm and friendly staff keep guests returning year in and year out to experience more wildlife, more body and soul revival.

Did you know that the biggest national park in Zimbabwe is Hwange, extending an enormous 14 650 square km towards Victoria Falls? Elephant’s Eye is actually 13 km from the entrance to Hwange but this private concession shares an unfenced boundary with the big park.

Appreciate your few nights in one of 8 elegant, tented chalets facing the active waterhole. Sleep deeply in comfy beds shrouded in mosquito nets and wake up under the outside shower. There is also an inviting bath tub, fireplace, tea and coffee facilities, fan and safe.  Each chalet has a double or twin bed, is surrounded by mosquito netting, with an en-suite bathroom with a bath and an outside shower. Other room amenities include fireplace, tea and coffee facilities, safe and fan. Cool off in the main swimming pool and watch game from the deck between drives and walks – sip a cold one at the bar then meet others around the fire later.

We love this genuine African lodge that is charmingly aimed at pleasing all guests but also educating them about the environment in Zimbabwe that requires ongoing protection. Enjoy fantastic service and facilities on your safari. Weddings are a hit here, beautifully planned and organised, as are honeymoons, so chat to our consultants about booking your wedding venue at Elephant’s Eye then the sleepout deck can be all yours for a few days!

Overview

Elephant’s Eye Lodge is not inside Hwange National Park but it shares an unfenced boundary with the famous reserve and guests get the best of both worlds when they go on game drives and bush walks – into both conservation areas.

Discover the magic of this private concession a mere 13 km from the main gate at Hwange and stretching an ample 6 000 acres in true dedication to preserving Zimbabwe’s natural heritage. This is the epitome of barefoot luxury in an eco-lodge made for comfort but still having minimal impacts on the great environment.

Staying here means that guests are close enough to Victoria Falls for an added adventure, and they can enjoy a huge diversity of fauna and flora in both Hwange National Park (covering some 14 650 square km) and the Zambezi National Park. The famous elephants of Hwange are everywhere so do look out for great photo opportunities – as well as of the many big cat sightings!

There is no shortage of outdoor entertainment at Elephant’s Eye lodge with the ozone eco swimming pool, the game viewing at the waterhole from every angle of the lodge, the open plan lounge, bar and boma areas too. Enjoy some privacy in 8 luxury tented suites raised on wooden platforms to avoid contact with the vegetation and to showcase the waterhole action and the undulating landscapes that change every hour of every day.

Indulge in hot showers, glorious bathtubs, views from the bed through large glass doors to the deck, and other mod cons essential for your comfort in the bush of Zimbabwe.  Set off on full day or half day game viewing adventures into the concession then beyond to Hwange National Park and chill out in the library later with a book.

Get good value for your safari if you come in the rainy season – the perks are reduced rates, lush vegetation and plenty of water around, birds and insects. But it is humid and it is harder to see wildlife thanks to the growth of the flora. Peak season is the dry season so rates are higher, people are more and animal sightings are easier. Chat to Voyage2Africa about coming in spring or autumn to solve these dilemmas and we will add on some additional tours to see other amazing African destinations.
