Kwihala Camp set deep in Tanzanias Ruaha National Park

Find the authentic Kwihala Camp set deep in Tanzania’s remote Ruaha National Park and only open from June to December when game viewing is ideal and the terrain of the breath-taking protected wilderness is at its best.

It’s an ingenious mobile camp in a highly productive wildlife area where walking safaris are the best way to explore animal interactions and learn about the landscape in depth.  Voyage2Africa believes that Kwihala is the most affordable of all the Ruaha accommodation camps, making it a preferred choice for those on a tight budget.

Discover the largest population of elephants in all of Tanzania, right here in Ruaha National Park as you set off on game drives at dawn. Look out for lions and huge herds of antelope including impala, zebra, kudu and giraffes. Walks are ever popular at Kwihala Camp, allowing all nature lovers to track animals of all shapes and sizes, to find the vital insects and plants in the ecosystems, and come across plenty of unplanned surprises!

Guests choose Kwihala for the thrilling night drives too with spotlights lighting the grasslands up and finding a leopard skulking far off, or an owl in a tree or a shooting star. Back at camp, sit out under a sky packed with stars and listen to the sounds of nature in survival mode.

Kwihala Camp is easily accessible from Msembe airstrip, a 45-minute drive from camp, and boasts only 6 roomy sandy-coloured tents perched on a hillside, surrounded by lush vegetation. Central to this typical safari camp of traditional colonial safaris is the plush lounge and dining areas, places to dine and chat, chill out with a book and a pair of binoculars, and simply sink into a huge sofa and gaze into the never-ending distances.

Kwihala Camp is a seasonal mobile camp positioned in the pristine frontier of Ruaha National Park, Tanzania, a refreshing combination of adventure and style. It’s ingeniously designed to encourage guests to experience Africa in its wildest state while still enjoying all the creature comforts of luxury accommodation reminiscent of the long-ago safari days in East Africa.

Find Kwihala nestling right in the central and most productive wildlife area of Tanzania’s Ruaha, where predator-prey interactions are all consuming and huge herds of plains game fill visitors’ lenses all hours of every day. Packed with rich game-viewing opportunities, Kwihala is the most affordable of all the Ruaha accommodation camps, making it a preferred choice for those on a tight budget.

An intimate camp in the deep wilds of the park, Kwihala boasts sufficient accommodation for just 12 visitors in 6 spacious sand-coloured tents, each with either double or twin beds and featuring en-suite bathrooms with bucket showers. Unpretentious and practical furnishings are still top quality and remain tuned to the textures and colours of nature outside, blending in to the African ambience. The tents are solar-powered, ensuring a peaceful setting for guests, eco-friendly and soft lit at night to embrace the setting.

Meet fellow guests in the main guest areas, under a large open-sided tent with superb bush views. Refined and elegant, the lounge and dining area invites relaxation while an open campfire or boma makes for the best dinner setting ever as the sounds of the night filter in and guests sip hot chocolates after a delicious meal.

Kickstart your day with a delicious fresh coffee before embarking on a dawn drive to find animals out surviving – tuck into a fantastic ‘bonnet breakfast’, prepared on the bonnet of your safari vehicle,  served in the heart of the African bush on your morning drive. Dinner at Kwihala is a 3-course affair, served alfresco under a star-studded sky.
