At Explorer Camp Shamwari, you’ll find ambient tented chalets nestled among the trees on a rocky ledge, surrounded by the stunning natural beauty of Eastern Cape’s boulders and rocky outcrops. This immersive experience offers a true connection to nature while honoring the timeless allure of traditional safaris

Shamwari Private Game Reserve is a premier safari destination where visitors can find the Big 5 and experience animals in unique vegetation endemic to this province. Shamwari means ‘my friend’ in Shona, and guests make friends for life with passionate game rangers and camp staff in this intimate venue. The 3-day itinerary takes the form of a trail through the wilderness, aspirant explorers arriving on a Friday and leaving on a Monday.

These Explorer Camp trails happen between October and May in this seasonal camp and each tent contains lovely comfy amenities for families with kids older than 15.  Set off into one of the largest private conservation initiatives in Southern Africa and learn from your guides how the flora and fauna interact and survive in this Eastern Cape region. Game view from your tent, furnished with camp stretchers, duvets and pillows, LED lights, outside showers and hammocks, tea and coffee facilities and plenty of warm cheer. 

Gather around the fire at night for feasts prepared by talented chefs and eat like kings from quality glass and silverware as the insects serenade you and the frogs call all night. Wake up to fresh coffee at Explorer Camp in front of your tent before you start your trails and have a sundowner from the portable bar served in exquisite crystal glasses when you return! Sit a while on the viewing deck and absorb the day’s activities.
