Day 1
Your once-in-a-lifetime Rovos Rail adventure departs from Cape Town Station and travels through the picturesque Western Cape Winelands towards the town of Worcester. Sip tea in the lounge and observation cars as the train climbs 750 m up the spectacular escarpment. Dress up for dinner before the train arrives at the first of four tunnels on the pass around midnight.
Day 2
After a good night’s rest in your elegant carriage, enjoy a hearty breakfast in the Victorian-style dining cars before the train arrives at Matjiesfontein in the Central Karoo. Disembark for a tour of the little village, enjoy tea and cake at the Matjiesfontein Coffee or visit the Transport Museum to view a unique collection of vintage vehicles. The train leaves at around 10h00 and travels through the vast Karoo region – lunch, tea and dinner are served en route.
Day 3
Disembark the train after a hearty breakfast and catch a bus into the city centre for a fascinating excursion around the Kimberley Diamond Mine Museum and Big Hole. Learn about the largest man-made excavation in the world and enjoy interactive activities in the museum. The train departs again at 12h00 so enjoy lunch aboard your luxury locomotive and watch the South African scenery pass by.
Day 4
Breakfast is served till 09h30 on your train as you eventually pull into the Rovos Rail Station in Pretoria. This is your journey’s end, say your goodbyes to your train crew and disembark the train and continue with your onward travel arrangements.
