Welcome to Kafue National Park, Zambia’s largest conservation area, covering 22,400 square kilometers (13,918 miles). This vast wilderness offers excellent game viewing and a serene, intimate safari experience. With only a handful of camps and lodges, it’s common to enjoy complete solitude, often without hearing the sound of another vehicle.
A key highlight of a safari in Kafue are their famous walking safaris and of course the Busanga floodplains. Once the waters recede, these lush plains become a paradise for wildlife. The floodplains attract abundant grazing animals such as red lechwe, puku antelope, and herds of buffalo and wildebeest. Seek out the endangered Lichtenstein’s hartebeest and find packs of the African wild dog on the hunt. Predators, including lions, leopards, cheetahs, wild dogs, and spotted hyenas, also frequent the area, adding to the thrill of the safari.
Spend 10 thrilling nights exploring the Kafue flats, lush thickets of South Luangwa National Park and the riverine forests of the Lower Zambezi National Park on one of our safaris. A packed itinerary starts in South Luangwa and ends in Kafue in a raised bush chalet in the heart of the breathtaking Busanga Plains. The name Shumba means lion in the local dialect and you will see many of these big cats!
