Camp Okavango

Camp Okavango is in the heart of the permanent delta

Camp Okavango, a Desert & Delta Safaris operation in breath-taking Botswana, decided to keep it simple and take its name from the very destination that is its lifeblood – it’s in the heart of the permanent Okavango Delta. It’s also a well-established eco lodge offering year-round game viewing in a stunning setting.

When guests discover the exclusive Okavango Camp, they return year in and year out for this remote getaway on the island of Nxaragha. Raised above this watery destination known for its water and land wildlife viewing, Camp Okavango is all linked via neat wooden ramps and walkways that wind between the two lounges, the dining room, library, bar, and curio shop. The lower deck boasts the fire pits and comfy seating for those evening meals after game drives when guests take in the night sounds and share their sightings of that day.

The third deck and its delightful swimming pool attracts guests after the morning game drive when they need to cool off and take a breather before a delicious lunch on a selected deck. Open plan, luxury living areas make sure that all visitors feel treated and pampered while viewing something extraordinary in Botswana’s best wild destination, the Okavango Swamps.

This Delta camp is ideal in size because it only accommodates 24 guests in 11 intimate safari suites and one family suite which has two bedrooms with their own ensuite bathrooms. The elevated timber and thatched suites are reminiscent of traditional safari villas with definitive canopied beds, muted shades of nature in the blues, pastels, browns and natural tiles in and woven couches with soft cushions and everything is relaxing and drawn to the environment outside.

See for miles from your private wooden deck, the grassy plains towards Moremi and the watery delta that is green and forested. See a range of animals from herds of buffalo and zebra to shy red lechwe, waterbuck and hippos.  Indulge in luxury facilities including double showers, stack sliding doors that never have to close.

We love the added choice of sleeping out closer to nature on the new sleep out deck which is offered as a three night stay to allow visitors to really feel, hear, see, experience Africa at her best. Relax in a comfy bed with mosquito net canopy, bathroom and all the necessary amenities you need for romance, good food and seclusion in the Botswana wilderness

Overview

Desert & Delta Safaris own and manage this dreamy Camp Okavango, the epitome of a safari outfit in the Botswana Okavango Delta, thanks to its traditional natural design and eco conscious layout. This is a water-based destination where guests explore waterways, lagoons and islands on boats, mokoros and on foot. Fishing for tiger fish is part of the fun and birding takes twitchers to the next level.

Book your safari accommodation in this Botswana Delta destination on a full board, fully inclusive package deal with delicious meals, lavish suites and all drinks paid for, plus all the outdoor activities you can manage. The camp operates all year round so choose the time that suits you and come with your children aged 6 and older to teach them about this magnificent wilderness.

Tented suites are traditionally thatched with wooden highlights in the beams, decks and ceilings and all rooms and main areas are linked with neat boardwalks in the trees. Views flow out towards the openness of the Botswana Okavango delta and the waterways are your adventure trails for the holiday you choose. Boat safaris, traditional mokoro canoe trips and fishing take visitors onto a new level, eye to eye with animals and water birds to really feel the environment in a sensory explosion of colour and sound.

Guest suites contain delightful showers, beds with views through the large glass stack sliding doors and ethnic lounge areas with muted shades from nature’s palette just outside. Relax on your private deck on a sun lounger while buffalo and elephant feed below you and visit the bird hide to see fantastic feathered species up close. Fans, torches and umbrellas cater for all weathers and needs too!

Wander the walkways to the pool deck, the two fire pits, the lounge and dining area decks and the wonderful library and curio shop. Sit for a while on the viewing deck beneath enormous Mangosteen trees, with a cuppa coffee and find yourself drifting into a relaxation you have never felt before. Game drives may not happen here, but walks are popular, after a mokoro ride to an island – find amazing wildlife simply existing in nature as it has done for centuries.

Sleep out under the stars for a few nights in the starlit platform with bed and shower or honeymooners can elect the privacy of the exclusive use “Okavango Suite”, a thatched cottage offering seclusion and peace, alone. We recommend a tour to the Okavango Delta and Camp Okavango, then add on a trip to Vic Falls and even a few nights in Zimbabwe. We also offer multi-country tours including Cape Town and the Mozambique islands!
