Elsa’s Kopje

Elsas Kopje one of Kenyas most luxurious retreats

Travel to Kenya for that dream safari holiday of all time and stay at Elsa’s Kopje, one of the country’s most luxurious retreats in the Mount Meru region on Mughwango Kopje offering spectacular safari lodge accommodation and scintillating views across the Meru plains.

If you know about George and Joy Adamson and their lions, then you will understand that Elsa’s Kopje is named after Elsa the lioness, heroine in the book Born Free – so is extra special in terms of Kenya history and conservation stories.

Sprawled out along the hillside, between the boulders and rocks, find 9 glorious safari suites created for privacy and panoramic views across the Meru Plains. Enjoy an authentic and traditional safari design from days of yore in Kenya when explorers and hunters passed by and wanted their lavish comforts and sustenance!

Elsa’s Kopje is for travellers who need a break from the rat race, don’t want to see too many tourists and who enjoy a subtle sense of luxury where sufficient game and birdlife fill their days with pleasure. The accommodation does not stop there – a large lavish family cottage with 2 bedrooms allows plenty of space and privacy with its large lounge while another private house, also two-bedroomed, caters for groups who like to be alone in nature.

The choice of three honeymoon suites means that this destination in Kenya’s Meru region is well loved by couples in love who need time alone in a tranquil, captivating landscape where wildlife viewing is the main attraction. Enjoy the traditional designs of thatch and wood, stone and cotton in each chalet, private decks and sunken bath tubs adding joy to your sojourn.

The private house creates a unique enclave with large lounge and dining area, private swimming pool and large deck and garden for 6 people. All guests can choose to socialise in the central lounge bar area with its swimming pool on the saddle of a hill looking out over the landscape of bush and mountains.

Mount Kenya is not far off and Meru covers a vast 870 square km of hills open plains, wetlands and water channels creating natural oases for animals in all seasons. Make sure you get to see the resident elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard, hippo, crocodile, reticulated giraffe, Beisa oryx, lesser kudu, waterbuck, Burchell’s zebra, Grevy zebra, Grant’s gazelle, gerenuk, dik dik, warthog, baboon, vervet monkey, and more!

Meru has a rhino sanctuary for the black and white species, as they reintroduce these iconic Big 5 animals into Africa and allow their populations to grow – if you love birds, Meru is the place to birdwatch when the European migrants arrive.
