Lukimbi Safari Lodge

Lukimbi Safari Lodge accommodation in Kruger National park

There is authentic eco accommodation in the heart of the Kruger National Park called Lukimbi Safari Lodge. One of only seven private concessions in the Greater Kruger, five-star luxury at Lukimbi Safari Lodge makes it an extra-special destination for animal lovers and we have the best fully inclusive safari package to get you there.

Revel in the solitude of a hand-crafted retreat that barely leaves a mark in the surrounding wilderness. Lukimbi blends into the environment, leaving not a trace of impact, thanks to the careful design on stilts in the thick of the indigenous vegetation.

The lodge has been built using natural materials like wood and reeds, cement and rocks and while it hides in the grove of green bushveld trees, it also offers guests a magnificent view from every suite, from every angle of the destination. A unique character has Lukimbi with its stylish African design, its modern take on an African theme and delightful use of cottons, natural textures and beautiful artworks placed strategically for effect, and guests to enjoy. Open wooden decks along the Lwakahle River link the social areas of Lukimbi in a subtle, attractive manner.

Elevated elegant suites are named after majestic species and feature private plunge pools on timber decks. Lukimbi Safari Lodge is proud of its 16 suites – 14 classic suites and 2 premier suites (King Cheetah and Giant Eagle Owl). Classic and premier suites can be converted to cater for families with additional single beds and access to the boardwalk leading to the lodge centre.  All bush chalets boast individualised views of the river and bushveld and are as private as can be. Premier suites are more luxurious with private plunge pools, and decks, larger lounges and dining areas.

Thrilling game drives twice a day introduce guess to exquisite animals such as giraffe, zebra, impala, kudu, buffalo, white rhino and elephant. Lions are not as common as leopards and cheetahs and the African wild dog is around a lot too.

Did you know that Kruger National Park is a huge wildlife refuge of nearly 2 million hectares and a haven to 336 trees, 49 fish, 34 amphibians, 116 reptiles, 507 birds and 147 mammal species?

The Lukimbi Private Concession within this rich biodiversity comprises 15 000 ha of blissful untouched bushveld and the Lwakahle River is its lifeblood. Your private safari awaits with only 32 people allowed into the 123 km network of roads. This partnership between conservation, people and local communities is working well and Lukimbi owners are committed to environmental ethics and wildlife preservation.

Lukimbi is named after the mysterious legendary Lukimbi, half lion and half eagle owl. According to local traditional history, the Mighty Toto was once walking near the bank of the beautiful Lwakhale River. Hearing screams from the river, he quickly ran down to the water’s edge and saw his beloved girlfriend, Ntombi, in the mighty jaws of a crocodile. Toto leaped into the water to save her. He fought that croc til night when he finally lay on the banks, weak and bloody. The great Nkulukulu in the heavens was sorry for Toto and Ntombi and turned them into Lukimbis – mythical beasts that are half giant eagle owl and half lion. The Lukimbi has the wisdom of the owl and the strength of the lion. Their task is to keep all travellers to the African bush safe.

Overview

With prime access to 15 000 hectares of pristine bushveld wilderness within the boundaries of the world-renowned Kruger National Park, Lukimbi Safari Lodge is a place of unique beauty and careful architecture. It is a lodge with a green conscience that was created using natural materials and to have as little impact on nature as possible. The owners love the bushveld and all the living things so do their best to share their passion with their guests.

Lavish yet unobtrusive safari accommodation in 16 suites is decorated with modern African furnishings, making the most of the incredible river views – the use of colour is artful and tasteful, enhancing nature’s canvas outside. The Giant Eagle Owl and King Cheetah premier rooms include private pools and second bathrooms, dining areas, larger lounges, main bathrooms with huge bathtubs, inside and outside showers, and private pools on wooden decks.

Classic suites present a sense of space where high windows allow nature to enter in all her glory and where the lounge is a level lower than the bedroom, flowing out to the private deck for some of the best game viewings ever. Elevated to make the most of the river views, these suites feature air-conditioning, fans, safes, tea and coffee facilities and minibars – children can share the space with their parents.

The premiere suites are ideal for honeymoon couples with a bit more luxury thrown in – just in case! In the main lodge, imagine carved plaster panels showing intricate mystical creatures and African patterns, a photographer’s delight? Open wooden decks along the Lwakahle River link the social areas of Lukimbi in a subtle, attractive manner.

While cooling off in the swimming pool, watch elephants frequently taking a quiet drink at the two pools on the way down to larger pools in front of the main guest areas. Firelit dinners featuring delicious South African dishes are very popular in the traditional boma. The chef is innovative and professional and creates food that is fit for royalty – nouvelle titbits and culinary masterpieces that melt in your mouth. Vegans will be excited about unique creations and special occasions are prepared to perfection. All meals are paired with top range South African wines from the cellar so go in and choose a bottle or two.

Morning and evening game drives and bush walks teach guests about the local uses of herbs and trees, animals and birds. Track charismatic animals to get really close to these Big Five creatures. Bush walks at Lukimbi Safari Lodge can never be forgotten – seeing animals on foot is exciting and spiritual and trackers show guests the spoor, the droppings and the tiny insects and birds that make the ecosystems so magical.
