The waters returned in 2008 to this erratic and intriguing watercourse, followed by herds of wild animals and birds. Visitors to this region love the diversity of wildlife, the huge open spaces of water and floodplains and the silences that are indeed golden. It’s all about coming to see elephants in their huge herds during the dry season where few tourists venture so it’s a private experience with exclusive access to numerous creatures and numbingly scenic landscapes.
The best Savuti Camp accommodation we can offer is 7 classic safari tents in this glorious, lush region raised on private decks with ensuite showers and incredible views. There’s also a comfy space for families raised off the gournd with plenty of space for two kids. Wander down to the communal guest areas and chat to fellow birders and wildlife lovers in the dining area under thatch, the lounge, swimming pool with gorgeous sun deck and game viewing space, plus the fire deck that extends right out towards the Channel to make the most of these herds of elephants, antelope and wading birds!
Listen at night as you savour good traditional meals around the fire for jackals calling, spotted hyenas giggling and wild dogs barking and hunting in their packs. Maybe you will see a rare aardvark or aardwolf on a night drive too!

Overview
Savuti Camp is located in Botswana’s Linyanti concession, right on the once-dry Savute Channel – with front row seats for all the action that unfolds at the water’s edge. The abundant game has returned to the Channel ever since it became a deep, clear waterway again: it is now home to hippo and aquatic life with a vast collection of waterbirds.
This intimate camp’s en-suite accommodation is in seven large walk-in tents that are raised off the ground and face onto the Channel. All rooms face the river and open onto a spacious deck from which to watch the wildlife pass by. From the camp’s thatched dining area, a plunge pool and large viewing area with fire pit extend outwards on raised wooden decks, providing a wonderful view of the water and its wildlife.
The Linyanti is most noted for its very large elephant population which can reach enormous densities during the dry winter months. Other game concentrations are also high – such as sable and roan antelope, lion, leopard, giraffe, cheetah, spotted hyena, wild dog and black-backed jackal are also encountered. The Savuti hide is an elevated platform from which to view and photograph animals and birds. Sleep-outs are also possible here, as it is equipped with bed rolls, mosquito nets and a long-drop toilet.
Morning and afternoon game drives are offered in open 4×4 Land Rovers while night drives with spotlights allow you to find those elusive nocturnal animals. On request, nature walks with skilled, armed guides are wonderful ways of getting close to nature and observing the smaller things you miss when travelling by vehicle. Exploring the waters by boat can be taken in the morning, during midday, or as an afternoon activity.
Voyage2Africa recommends Savuti Camp as part of an unforgettable adventure into the Linyanti and Savute Channel region, far north in Botswana near the Caprivi Strip. We love this haven of tranquillity and rich wildlife sightings and have the tours to match such a safari treat.
