The family cottages feature one main ensuite bedroom with a convivial fireplace, large glass doors that fold back to walk onto the private patio, and bunk beds plus 2 single beds in the kids’ room. 

The larger, self-catering cottage, Churchill’s cottage, features some of the best views in the area, out towards Spioenkop mountain, the scene of a famous battle. Families can be completely private here, with their own swimming pool, entertainment area, open-plan lounge and kitchen and two large ensuite bedrooms – the ideal setup for families with teenagers! 

The newest cottage, Burchells, is also ideal for a group of 4 adults or a family with its own kitchen, lounge, private patio and captivating views of this stunning Bergville destination!

Three Trees Hill Lodge in Bergville, near Spioenkop is a family-owned and run establishment set in the Battlefields of KwaZulu Natal against the spectacular backdrop of the Drakensberg Mountains of South Africa. This upmarket and homely accommodation is the ideal location for a midlands holiday for those who wish to explore the major Anglo-Boer War Battlefields of Spioenkop and Colenso, the Northern Drakensberg Mountains (World Heritage Site) and the Anglo-Zulu War Battlefields (Isandlwana and Rorke’s) which are a mere 2hrs away.

An eco-friendly lodge set on the former site of a British military headquarters, Three Trees has been constructed mainly from wood and iron to resemble the settler housing kits that were brought out from Britain in the 19th century. Refined accommodation at this Battlefields lodge is in 6 elegant twin rooms, a self-contained 2 bedroom cottage and 1 family suite, all with private viewing decks.

To add to this, the country hotel also features a swimming pool, a main dining area, and a roomy lounge area with a wide veranda including a game viewing deck. The lodge is tactfully placed to afford panoramas of a stunning valley of the Spioenkop Game Reserve, host to rhino, zebra, giraffe, eland and other antelope species.

Activities at Three Tree Hill comprise tours of the Anglo-Boer War Battlefields, including explorations of the other battlefields in the region. All of these informative tours are led by the residence’s expert guide who has the ability to bring historic events to life with his narrative skills. The Spioenkop Nature Reserve offers guests the opportunity to see a variety of animals including rhinos, zebra and giraffes. Guided walks, horse riding as well as mountain biking excursions into the foothills of the Drakensberg are also on offer.
