Day to Day Itinerary
Day 1
2 NIGHTS ON A FULL BOARD BASIS
Meet a local representative on arrival at Windhoek Airport and take the chartered flight to Desert Rhino Camp, enjoying the ever-changing and desolate desert landscape below. The 450 000-ha Palmwag Concession supports the largest free-roaming population of desert-adapted black rhinos in Africa. Thanks to freshwater springs in the area there is a surprising amount of life here and your highlight is to track rhinos by vehicle and on foot! Desert Rhino Camp is run in conjunction with the local community and the Save the Rhino Trust, with a portion of the guest revenue going to the Trust.
Day 2
On safari at Desert Rhino Camp. Morning and evening activities included. Only 8 comfortable Meru-style tents and a stunning central area overlooking a sweeping plain dotted with Namibia’s national plant, the welwitschia. Tell stories around the nightly campfire under huge star-studded skies after a fun communal meal at the large wooden table. Get ready for some thrilling rhino tracking – when trackers find a rhino they radio the 4×4 vehicle and guests go in on foot – very exciting!
Day 3
After breakfast and final farewells, fly north to spend 3 days exploring another diverse and fascinating part of the Palmwag Concession and the legendary Skeleton Coast National Park. Game drives and nature walks within this rugged landscape reveal wildlife such as desert-adapted elephants, Hartmann’s mountain zebra and giraffe to name a few. The highlight is a visit to the iconic Skeleton Coast via the Hoanib River and floodplain, the dune fields and Klein Oasis, ending at the dramatic rocky coastline itself with its huge Cape fur seal colony.
Days 4 – 5
On safari at Hoanib, a true gem that defines remote safari camps on Namibia’s famed Skeleton Coast so wild and remote that it’s only accessible by small aeroplanes. Only 7 two-bedded tents and one family tent with designer facilities and shady decks offer refuge from the wilderness outside. The camp is sheltered by huge sand dunes and overlooks incredible unforgettable scenery – fly to the coast to view the famous shipwrecks and watch the cape seals in the mind-blowing 14,000+ seal colony. Your guide will set up tables on the beach and produce a tasty lunch. Game drives and nature walks too.
Day 6
Fly by light aircraft to the vast Marienfluss Conservancy in the extreme north of Namibia for 3 nights at Serra Cafema Camp. This captivating venue is poised along the lush banks of the Kunene River, surrounded by the lunar-like landscape of the Namib Desert and the Cafema mountain range. Experience this vast fascinating area with informative nature drives and eco-friendly quad-bike excursions. Boating on the river reveals the resident crocodiles and waterbirds in this riverside oasis. Walking in the remote mountain and river valleys and visits to a Himba settlement, plus the intriguing fairy circle phenomenon in the Hartmann Valley.
Days 7 – 8
On safari at Serra Cafema in only 8 top-class thatched tents, raised on decks to take in the vast open landscapes prevalent in these parts. Go boating, walking, and on scenic drives, or join a guided quad-bike excursion that treads lightly on the dunes. Meet the Himba people and learn about their nomadic, traditional way of life. Enjoy nature drives and walks in Hartmann’s Valley, and a packed picnic lunch at Marienfluss Valley.
Day 9
Your final day of this Namibian adventure. Time permitting, there’s an option of doing one final morning activity. Then transfer by light aircraft to Hosea Kutako International Airport, Windhoek for your onward travel arrangements.
