Self-drive from Johannesburg in a few hours. Take the very good, tarred road from Johannesburg to Timbavati in 6 hours. The last 8 km of road inside the Timbavati Resrve is dirt but it is a good road accessed by any vehicle. The Timbavati entry gate is very close to Kruger’s Orpen Gate.
Getting to Timbavati by air is the easiest option. International visitors can fly from OR Tambo International in Johannesburg to Hoedspruit Eastgate Airport or to Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport and Phalaborwa Airport too.
The flights from Cape Town go to Hoedspruit Eastgate Airport. From there, your chosen safari lodge will arrange a transfer as part of your special package to Timbavati Game Reserve. These transfer trips take about one hour.
