Overview

Elephant Bedroom Camp offers luxury in a setting of sensory beauty, a tranquil destination made for game viewing and nature walks where spectacular landscapes beckon. Find 14 glorious, tented chalets perched on wooden decks on the shady banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River beneath pretty doum palms and ancient African trees that make up this green belt of riverine forest in Samburu National Reserve.

Welcome to a Kenya conservation area named after the people who were here first, the Samburu tribes, a Nilotic people of north-central Kenya, being semi-nomadic pastoralists who herd mainly cattle but also keep sheep, goats and camels. The name they use for themselves is Lokop or Loikop, a term which may have a variety of meanings. Be amazed by the brilliant beauty of the extensive Samburu National Reserve, its epic dry plains bisected by the meandering river, and the backdrop of Africa’s dramatic Mount Kenya.

Only 14 spacious tents feature Samburu-style rustic and colourful ethnic touches, brimming with all the usual tented safari lodge comforts plus a private plunge pool on the deck, hot and cold running water, and other wonderful surprises.

The lounge and dining area is decorated with vibrant safari style, its soft intimate lighting assuring that this is the ultimate place to relax in between exciting game drives. Elephant, Monkeys, Impalas are amongst the camp’s many regular wild visitors, whilst Samburu National Reserve has a good number of lions and leopards and offers the opportunity to see many species endemic to northern Kenya.
