Giraffe Manor Overview
Giraffe Manor is situated south-west of Nairobi within 140 acres of indigenous forest and plays host to a resident herd of endangered Rothschild giraffe. The lodge is positioned approximately 13 km from Nairobi’s city centre, a mere 30-minute journey by road.
The Giraffe Manor offers an experience unsurpassed by any other. Initially built as a residence in 1932 by Sir David Duncan, the property was then bought in 1974 by the US conservationist Betty Leslie-Melville and her husband Jock who have made it into what it is today. A Nairobi boutique hotel where you can feed and photograph the giraffe over your breakfast table, at the front door, and even from your bedroom window.
Make yourself at home in one of 10 beautifully appointed rooms encompassed in 2 buildings. 8 of the rooms are Superior and the other 2 Standard, with the Superior being noticeably larger with better views. The original manor house has 4 bedrooms while the Garden Manor houses the other 6 rooms.
The rooms at this aesthetic hotel in Kenya are individually designed with their own personality and style. The en-suite rooms are equipped with hairdryers, torches, safes, designer toiletries by Eco Fresh – and giraffe pellets for those times when these friendly animals peep through your window. Superior rooms offer bathtubs while 4 of the rooms feature fireplaces.
The main shared areas of Giraffe Manor are housed in the original manor house. The living room is comfortably furnished with comfy armchairs and couches as well as artworks and occasional tables. The breakfast room is a delightful place to enjoy breakfast in the company of the resident giraffes.
Guests can enjoy luscious meals in the formal wood-panelled dining room. In between the main house and the Garden Manor is a pleasant courtyard area where lunch is usually served. The lodge also has a curio shop and treatment room for massages. The Garden Manor has its own hallway and staircase, elegant lounge and formal dining room.
