Stay at Giraffe Manor in Nairobi and enjoy a one-of-a-kind experience – feeding the endangered Rothschild giraffe from your window in a Kenyan city! Voyage2Africa knows plenty of Nairobi hotels for holiday satisfaction but this particular hotel retains a certain charm and eccentricity that makes guests forget that they are staying in the enormous metropolis of Nairobi. Giraffe Manor is an unusual city hotel that still holds onto its old world sophistication with elegant retro touches that are evocative of the 1930s era.
Booked on a full-board basis, visitors to Nairobi, Kenya, only pay extra on champagne and specially imported wines and spirits. Hop on board one of the sightseeing vehicles and explore the many attractions nearby if you like a bit of wining and dining, culture and history thrown in too before you head off on safari tour to one of the many game reserves and national parks in Kenya.
Find Giraffe Manor in the shady suburb of Langata, lined with huge old trees on a verdant expanse of 12 acres, once a colonial hunting lodge in the 1930s. Feel as if you are in the movie, Out of Africa, when you stay here in a luxury suite and hear how the founders of this upmarket Nairobi hotel started the Endangered Wildlife Africa Fund, bringing two endangered Rothschild Giraffes to their home and naming them Daisy and Marlon!
Tasteful accommodation suits all tastes and is the epitome of refined colonial style, grace and serenity – several stories up the walls are covered in green creeping plants and the white window frames look out over the pretty gardens where the giraffes stroll.
Choose to stay in the delightful and slightly eccentric Giraffe Manor situated south-west of Nairobi within 140 acres of gardens and – home to a resident herd of endangered Rothschild giraffe. Find the affluent lodge an easy 13 km from Nairobi’s city centre, close to the airport and a great first stop before you hit the game reserves of the Masai Mara, Amboseli, Samburu and Mount Kenya.
The Giraffe Manor offers an experience unsurpassed by any other hotel in Nairobi Kenya. Initially built as a residence in 1932 by Sir David Duncan, the property was then bought in 1974 by the US conservationist Betty Leslie-Melville and her husband Jock who have made it into what it is today. A Nairobi boutique hotel where you can feed and photograph the giraffe over your breakfast table, at the front door, and even from your bedroom window!
