Mkulumadzi Lodge

An exclusive Malawi safari lodge in the Majete Wildlife Reserve

Enjoy the perfect blend of wonderful isolation and first-class facilities at the mesmerising Mkulumadzi Lodge in the Majete Wildlife Reserve where a Malawi safari operated by Robin Pope Safaris makes for first-class experiences in nature.

Alfresco rain showers and large sunken baths are among the luxuries in each chalet and honeymooners will appreciate the chic and modern retreat in their private chalet with romantic amenities. Families are in for the time of their lives in this wilderness with guaranteed extraordinary wildlife sightings daily. Congregate around the campfire each night and share stories about the day’s excursions.

Mkulumadzi lies peacefully within its own concession in the pristine bushveld and its highlight is the first entrance guests experience on a bridge hanging over the Mkulumadzi River from whence the camp gets its name. In fact, this camp is ingeniously created to make the most of dramatic views over the confluence of two rivers including the Shire.

Sit on the main deck and admire these two rivers as all kinds of wild animals visit their banks to drink and socialise. Swim in the refreshing swimming pool, dine under the stars every night and take to the river in boats and canoes in the mornings. Game drives and walking trails are super exciting when you get close to majestic mammals and reptiles, birds and ancient trees. Check out the black rhinos, lions, leopards, elephants, buffalos, Nyala, sable, eland and Lichtenstein’s hartebeest as well as the gracious Pel’s Fishing Owl!

Owned and managed by the renowned Robin Pope Safaris, with a reputation of excellence in safaris and luxury camps, this reserve is a haven of sustainable development, ecotourism and biodiversity all working together. It’s thanks to the African Parks Network too that endangered species have a chance in Majete. Visit Malawi with Voyage2Africa and see what we mean when we choose Lake Malawi and Majete as our top African destinations this summer!

Overview

Mkulumadzi Lodge boasts a stunning position overlooking tumbling rapids at the confluence of the Shire and Mkulumadzi rivers. Set within 7000 ha of private concession in the mind-blowing Majete Wildlife Reserve, Malawi, the lodge is the perfect blend of wonderful isolation and first-class facilities.

What’s more, Mkulumadzi Lodge provides the perfect romantic settings for honeymoon couples, simultaneously allowing provisions for ideal safaris for families, and coupled with its affordable Malawi holiday packages, it makes for a superb choice of accommodation for honeymooners and families on a quest for indulgence in the bush.

Majete is the first Big 5 park in Malawi and there are only two lodges, Mkulumadzi being the lavish one with splendid mod cons and modern furnishings. Go boating on the rivers, birding, on bush trails and on major game drives into unexplored wild territories. You will see unusual species here, not the usual main animals so prevalent in other national parks and then you return to your shady chalet under huge old leadwood trees and wild mangos. Sit on your private deck at night and just listen to the sounds of the river and the nocturnal creatures as shooting stars cover the skies.

Only 8 large rustic chalets feature roofs that grow plants in an eco-conscious manner of creating natural temperatures – keep cool in summer as you admire all these indigenous succulents growing on your roof. Rooms are light and airy and decorated with locally made furniture while outdoor showers cool you down after long game drives.

Revel in daily and thrilling game drives and walking safaris then relax beside the sparkling swimming pool, watch birds or tune into the sounds of nature – afternoon tea is a highlight, followed by the night drive before a delicious dinner at the fireside.  Voyage2Africa promises you high-class safari accommodation on tours into Malawi.
